Radio Hour Practice

One doesn’t usually write a review before the program, but this is a Three Hills Arts Academy production we are talking about. This show, “Radio Hour Classics,” is inviting you to “be the radio audience”. The music, and other items brings back the era of the 30’s and the 40’s.

Having had the chance to take in an early rehearsal, even with some performers missing, I can say you will be in for a great treat.

The show is featuring a cast of performers, most of whom are well known to this community and to the Arts Academy stage. Naming the last names here will in some cases indicate more than one from the same family, and for others they will be the only representative. You can look forward to hearing from the following: Adkins, Burden, Cotton, Dietz, Harback, Johnson, Laplante, Luijkx, McNeely, Sept, Stahl, Thiessen, and White.

Some will be on stage in a different role than we have seen them before so, when an actor now becomes a vocalist and instrumentalist as well, we are in for a surprise.

The format puts you in the audience of what would be a live radio production, and this includes the sound effects person supplying the right sounds to accompany the dialogue when they present their “mystery drama”, and the appropriate cues for the audience to laugh or applaud, although in this case there will be no real need to prompt. There will be the “words from our sponsors” and jingles in the style of yesteryear. Included will be a few “comedy routines, solos, trios, quartets, and we even get to hear from a real ‘dummy’.

Come prepared for a program that runs close to two hours. The show runs October 26, 27 & 28 beginning at 7 pm.
