Jon Radcliffe wins All Around Canadian Auctioneers Championship

The Auctioneers Association of Alberta held its' 77th Annual Convention at Coast Hotel in Lethbridge on February 3rd -5th 2011. We had approximately 120 people in attendance. Congratulations to Convention Chairperson John Perlich and his entire support group and all the Perlichs that helped make this convention such a success. This year we had our first annual All Around Canadian Auctioneers Championship. Ron Victor and all the members that helped him did a remarkable job in organizing this competition. We had 21 entrants. Jonathan Radcliffe from Torrington won the first place buckle, trophy and $2000.00.cash as the Champion. Dwayne Dunkle from Castor placed second and third went to Donnie Peacock of Maple Creek. Great job guys.
Robert Lind is President .Robert owns Timberlind Auctions in Buck Creek.
John Perlich from Lethbridge is Vice President.
Darrell Domes, Wade Michener and Gerald Zimmerman were re-elected as directors. Other directors are Dale Menzak, Pete Conway, Ben Kellert, John Arnold, Don Montgomery and Darrell Johnston.
Lorraine Klepper remains Secretary-treasurer
The Vern Scown Memorial Tyro Contest trophy was won by Nick Gulka, Edmonton. He works part time for Timberland Auctions. The Tyro contest is an auction contest for auctioneers who have graduated from an auction school within the last two years. There were five other contestants.
Farm Press Group and Wheel and Deal are very strong supporters of our Tyro contest donating large amounts of advertising to be auctioned. Thank you.
Timberland Auctions, Buck Creek, won the best Web Page design. The photo contest was won by Pete Conway.
Eldon Couey was in attendance to get his 50 year membership plaque and pin. Roy Greenwood, Bob Laackmann and Bryan Tink were also recognized as 50 year members but were not in attendance.
Brent Schlenker received his 40 year pin and plaque. Dennis Tink was also a 40 year member but not in attendance. 25 year members were Allen Antoniuk, Neil Campbell, Roy Fjordbotten, Carmen Hokansen, Hazel Isley, Angus McInenly, Les McIntrye, Wayne Ollive, James Pollock, Paulette Rivard, Sharon Sim, Barbara Stewart, Kevin Tink and Miles Wowk.
Distinguished Service Award went to Dave Sharp, Calgary. This is an award given to recognize members that have been an ambassador for the Association and the Industry.
Robert Lind presented the Canadian Cancer Society with a check for $16,955.00 on behalf of the association. We raise this money by auctioning pictures. These pictures are Bernie Brown prints that the association purchases and the members sell them with all funds going to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Last year Past President Brad Neal started a new recognition Award. It is the Presidents Award. The President chooses a person they feel fits in this criteria. This year President Robert Lind presented Lorraine Klepper with this award. Lorraine has been the secretary/treasurer of the association for 24 years.
Next year's Convention will be our 78th .It will be held in Red Deer at the Red Deer Lodge Hotel. It will be our 2nd Annual All Around Canadian Auctioneers Championship.
