Renee O’Brien acclaimed as Carbon Councillor

Renee OBrian

Congratulations to Renee O’Brien on becoming Carbon’s newest councillor. Carbon will have no need for an election as Mrs. O’Brien received the post by acclamation on July 12.

She has been a Carbon resident since she was 16 years old, having arrived to the Carbon community in 1989 from Grand Falls, Newfoundland. After graduating from Carbon School, she worked 13 years at Eagle Lake Nurseries in Strathmore and has worked the past seven years with ATCO Energy Solutions. “My husband and I raised our children here in Carbon and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have always loved the small town feel and the togetherness of tight knit communities. I feel that with my becoming a council member, I will be able to learn more about our community and represent it in a positive way.“

Mrs. O’Brien has served on the Carbon Parent Advisory Council, Carbon Skatepark, Carbon Recreation Board, and now on Carbon Library Board and Carbon Hall Board. Her volunteer time has been to help with Carbon Lions cabarets. “I have been part of many boards and groups over the years and volunteer my time to events in Carbon. Carbon has many great qualities and I want to help add more to that list.”

Mrs. O’Brien describes herself as someone who is not afraid of change. “I am an observer; I ask questions and I am here to help. Every community has their trials and tribulations but it is what makes each community stronger. We learn and grow from it. I am ready and willing to help with representing our ‘Great Little Village’, to help it grow and thrive.”
