Move Yourself Dance Ltd., coming to Trochu

Move Yourself

Move Yourself Dance (MYD) is taking over for Danceway 21 and will be collaborating with Trochu Dance Troupe. In the past Trochu Dance Troupe, which is a non-profit parent society, worked and collaborated with Danceway 21, both have been in the Trochu area for over 30 years.

Move Yourself Dance Ltd. was founded in 2009 in Sundre, and expanded to Olds, in 2012. This year for the 2018/2019 season they are extremely excited about adding a new location to the MYD family. Their instructors specialize in a number of different dance disciplines with students ranging from age three to adult. The founding principles of Move Yourself Dance are integrity, professionalism and passion. Their studio is excited to be part of all three communities while offering positive dance training to dancers of all ages and experience. They have as their motto: “Be Yourself, Challenge Yourself and Move Yourself”.

Shara Smith and Lisa Calverley will continue teaching for the new Move Yourself Dance location. MYD is hoping to get a new Hip Hop instructor to join the MYD team. They continue to run both in Trochu at their Main Studio in the Trochu Community Hall and in Three Hills at the Three Hills School.

Students enrolled in the new Move Yourself Dance location will also have the opportunity to participate in weekend workshops with their Calgary and Red Deer instructors; as well as participate in large group choreography events which brings all three locations together to create an amazing dance family.

By running as a dance studio and non-profit parent society they will be able to save families and parents money on costumes, props etc.

The Move Yourself Dance instructors are Miss. Heidi Overguard who grew up in the Sundre area, training in studios in Caroline, Olds and Innisfail. During her dance career she took part in all different disciplines. She is currently a mom of three young children, farms, as well as owns Heidi Overguard Photography.

Miss Christine Rosenberger grew up in Grande Prairie and moved to the Olds area 14 years ago where she has taught dance for the past 14 years. Her training is mainly in Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) ballet but she also took part in all other disciplines throughout the years. She is a mom of five children, as well as a teacher.

Move Yourself Dance instructors specialize in RAD ballet training, Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers (ADAPT) Tap and Jazz training, as well as professional training in Hip Hop, Contemporary and Acro (or Acrobatic). The instructors from MYD received a number of different awards for dances throughout the past years.

MYD won the Grande Championship Dance in the Catch A Rising Star Dance Championships in Drumheller for two years in a row.

The MYD family of instructors encourage and love to build community relationships with all three small communities that they call home. Their dancers take part in performing at Senior centres during the Christmas season and they are constantly taking part in community events that may arise throughout the year.
