Growing Kneehill Country Market and Long Table Dinner a great success

Horse Shoe Canyon

As part of Alberta’s Open Farm Days and Local Food Week, Kneehill County’s Agricultural Service Board hosted the Growing Kneehill Country Market and Long Table Dinner August 18, 2018, at Horseshoe Canyon.

Kneehill County Council is extremely proud of the ASB staff for organizing the event, focusing on agri-tourism and promoting our local operations.

Horseshoe Vendors

Saturday’s Country Market saw 11 vendors set up shop overlooking the stunning landscape of Horseshoe Canyon - still a sight to behind despite the slight haze of wildfire smoke in the air. Over the course of the afternoon, hundreds came to browse the artisans, producers and operations that call Kneehill County and the surrounding area home: Soleterra d’Italia, High Seas Coffee, Homestyle Pies, Alberta Prairie Steam Tour, Jungling Works, Canadian Badlands Tourism, Red Deer River Adventures, Sage Valley Marketing and Pursuit Adventures.

After the Country Market began, the second annual ticket Long Table Dinner was enjoyed. With support from sponsors, Canalta Hotels and Soleterra d’Italia, and working with Food Tourism Strategies, the meal was prepared by renowned Calgary Chefs Andrea Harling and Pierre Lamielle, who created a delectable menu with fresh food and ingredients from local producers: Dancing Goats Farm, Soleterra d’Italia Ltd., Three Hills Hutterite Colony, Mousse Cake Sally, Bauer Meats, High Seas Coffee, Prairie Brewing Company, Fallen Timber Meadery, Golden Acres Honey, and Pearson’s Berry Farm.

The 86 guests in attendance savoured a mouthwatering four-course meal, with homegrown and locally sourced ingredients featured in each dish, such as the zucchini bloom salad made with summer squash form the Three Hills Hutterite Colony, grilled AAA flank steak from Bauer Meats and raspberry tart mousse cake with fresh, local raspberries by Mousse Cake Sally. Guests also enjoyed Eqwittty Orange Belgian Witbier from Prairie Brewing Company, Saskatoon Mead from Fallen Timber Meadery, a charcuterie with campagnola salami and calabrese picante from Soleterra, and fresh spreadable goat cheese from Dancing Goats Farms as part of the evening’s extraordinary menu. And don’t forget the Gilberta Rojas Columbia coffee to cap off the amazing meal, from High Seas Coffee in Linden.

Paired with the breathtaking views of Horseshoe Canyon, guests were treated to an unforgettable dining experience that will be hard to rival, until next year’s Long Table Dinner, that is.
