CHRISTIE, Madelyn (Lynne)

Lynne Christie

February 1, 1928 – June 26, 2022

The family of Madelyn Christie sadly announce her passing on June 26, 2020 at the age of 94 years. Madelyn was born in Calgary on February 1, 1928, the 5th of 6 children. Madelyn married John (Jack) Christie on September 4, 1948. After residing in Calgary, the family moved to Bassano where Madelyn helped operate a coin laundry and sometimes worked in the local stores. She joined the Royal Purple and was active in the curling community as well. In 1966, the family moved to Trochu where the Christie brothers started a business called “Christie Brothers Pork Limited.” Lynne did all the laundry for this large business and even darned all the socks. In the 1980’s, Jack and Lynne started going to Mesa, Arizona. The time there was special and the friends they made are still in contact with her to this day. Jack and Lynne retired to Trochu in the 1990’s and Madelyn continued making life long friends with whoever she met. When they moved to Trochu, she would always introduce herself to the neighbors and would welcome new neighbors as well. She would walk numerous times each and every day for groceries and to the local Drop-in Centre. She loved the Arboretum, and she enjoyed selling tickets for the Elks July 1st draw. After the loss of her husband, Madelyn had a fall in late December of 2020 that resulted in her choosing to make her new home at St. Mary’s Lodge in Trochu in 2021. In May of 2022, she began her short battle with cancer. She fought hard to remain cheerful and supportive for all those who love her but cancer took her on June 26, 2022. She was predeceased by her parents Johann and Germain Stunzi, brothers – Walter, Robert, John and Charles; sister- Aimee Messerli. She lost her daughter – Heather Pengelly (2017), and son – John (2017) and her loving husband of 72 years, Jack who passed in 2020. Lynne was also predeceased by numerous other family members. Madelyn’s memory will be forever cherished by her children, George Christie of Australia, Janice (Howard) Weis of Huxley, daughter-in-law, Sharon Christie of Trochu, 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. In keeping with Madelyn’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. There will be Celebration of Life for both Madelyn (Lynne) and John (Jack) on July 7, 2022 at the Trochu Community Hall at 2:00 p.m. The family asks that all those attending follow safe distancing and necessary Covid protocol. In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Three Hills & District Palliative Care Society, Box 1595, Three Hills, AB T0M 2C0 (Please specify Three Hills Palliative Care in Memory of Madelyn Christie) or to a Charity of Choice in their memory to honor their dedication to the community they always supported would be appreciated.
