HENSTELL, Deborah Doreen

Deborah Doreen Henstell (Lipkind) - January 25, 1910 – February 13, 2018 - Born in Daysland, Alberta, Canada, and raised in Daysland, Calgary, and Three Hills, Alberta, Doreen passed away in her home in Forest City, Pennsylvania. She chose early on to live an active and social life. Her early career choices, first training as a teacher, then working in the Canadian Unemployment Insurance office in Calgary reflect her life-long love of people. In Calgary, she was an active community member, and was remembered by friends years after she left. Upon marrying Dr. Phillip Henstell in 1952. Doreen moved to Forest City, PA, and embraced living there. As she used to say, “I'm a true small town girl and this is where I belong.” She helped in the doctor’s office and enthusiastically engaged in local community activities, even after her husband’s death in 1984. Doreen loved painting and participated in the local art club even in her 105th year. Her family always looked forward to her visits-hearing her stories, getting her advice and of course, sharing sweets. She was our Aunt who had a real zest for life and loved us all dearly. Doreen was predeceased by her husband Dr. Phillip Henstell and her stepdaughter Diana Henstell (Walter Silber), her parents Clara and Joseph Lipkind, sisters Blanche Bercovich and Minnie Bercov, brother Sol Lipkind, and their spouses, brother Dr. Maxwell Lipkind, and nephew Donald Lipkind. She is survived by her younger sister, Marian Corday, her grandchildren Abby & Josh, her great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Heartfelt thanks for the loving and attentive care by Doreen’s numerous caregivers, especially Gladys and Cheryl, over the past many years.
