PRATT, Kenneth Robert

Ken Pratt

Kenneth Robert Pratt was born in Cereal, Alberta on May 17, 1945, the eldest of four sons born to Frank and Velma Pratt. He was raised on a farm in Esther, Alberta, completing high school at nearby New Brigden. Ken attended NAIT then worked as a mechanic in Oyen before returning to farming. In 1967 he married Gisela Schroeder. During their farming years, Ken and Gisela welcomed a son and four daughters into their lives. In 1990, Ken and Gisela sold their farm and settled in Three Hills, Alberta. As a sprightly young adult, Ken competed in various team sports. In later years he remained proficient at less active games. He expressed ingenuity in crafting numerous structures for his children and grandchildren to enjoy. Ken’s passion for nature led his family and friends to accompany him on many camping, hiking and fishing trips. With candid wit, Ken eagerly connected with others. An active and faithful member of the local church throughout his adult life, it wasn’t until age 39 that Ken made a true commitment to the Lord and began to understand the importance of walking in fellowship with his God. Despite several serious health issues in recent years, Ken sought to live each day purposefully. Ken passed away on February 8 at 72 years and was laid to rest in Esther Cemetery. A memorial followed on February 17 in Three Hills. Ken will be deeply missed by his loving wife Gisela, son Marvin, daughters Lisa Gramlich, Vera (Chris) Mazurak, Corinna (Don) Montgomery, Lora (Nico), son-in-law Mark Gramlich, and eleven grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn his mother, Velma Bakken, brothers Wayne (Bernice) Pratt and Barry (Kathy) Pratt, sister-in-law Marcia Pratt, and their respective families. Ken was predeceased by his father, Frank Pratt, brother Murray Pratt, nephew Greg Pratt and stepfather Elmer Bakken.
