BOAKE, Robert (Bob)

Boake Obit

Robert [Bob] Boake passed away peacefully in his home on April 16 at the age of 81. Bob was born on December 1, 1936, the 10th child of EJC and Helena (Loewen) Boake's 11 children. Robert was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Bart, Bud, Bill, Joe and Matt, sisters Mary and Anne and an infant son. Bob is survived by his brothers Ken [Carmen], Guy, and his sister Leta Wise, his sons Dean and Stephen [Lynn] of Acme, and Sean, Cochrane, his daughters Tracy Leinweber [Kurt] of Linden, Jennifer Mack [Rick] of Calgary, and Michelle Boake of Irricana, three grandsons Travis Leinweber [Morgan] of Airdrie, Tucker Leinweber [Janelle] of Linden and Tommy Boake of Acme, four grand-daughters Jodi Aberle [Rob] of Medicine Hat, Jessica Warr [Brian] of Linden, Anika Mack of Toronto, Ahmi Mack of Calgary, and three great-grandchildren Tenley, Myla and Jace Aberle. Bob was born at Swalwell and he spent his early years working on the farm at Downsview. In his mid teens he spent a year at a children's hospital in Calgary recovering from polio. Bob married his high school sweetheart Joan Mallach in 1957 and had three children, Dean, Tracy and Stephen. Joan passed away in 1968. Bob then married Sarah MacIsaac and had two more children, Jenny and Sean, and in 1978 married Wendy Gerlitz, and adopted her daughter Michelle into the family. Bob and Wendy enjoyed life together until her passing in 2010. Bob was a lifelong farmer who was always interested in innovative farming practices. He built his own elevator, he planted shelterbelts and practiced continuous cropping in the mid-1970s, began bison farming in the 80s, and thoroughly enjoyed his 18 years as a counselor for Kneehill County. For the last number of years Bob has enjoyed traveling, daily coffee with good friends, helping out farming, gardening, driving his Ford truck and meeting old and making new friends. He loved helping people and was never afraid to offer advice. In his retirement years he became a passionate advocate of juicing for health. Bob is our example that although we may have little control over the quantity of our lives we certainly can have influence over our health and the quality of our lives. Memorial services were held Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Acme Community Centre with interment in Acme Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at
