Prairie College hosted 18 ACAC Futsal teams at the Rick Downs Athletic Centre, and the Three Hills School this past weekend. Prairie was the only non ACAC team to participate in the tournament, and faced stiff competition from much larger schools.

It was the first tournament of the season for the Pilots and while neither team secured a win it was a good effort by both teams. Women’s coach Vanessa Dyck said that her team played “extremely well for their first futsal tournament this year. They lost some hard fought games but were rewarded with a 1-1 tie against Olds College.” On the men’s side coach Paul Sankar remarked that for being short of players, some having never played futsal before this season, and participating in their first game of the year, the men did well and look forward to playing again at their next tournament.

When the busses rolled out of town Saturday night it was the Olds College Broncos men and Lethbridge College Kodiaks women who left victorious; the men in a 3-2 shootout win against the Lakeland College Rustlers, and the women in a 4-1 match against the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings.

Both Pilots Futsal teams will participate in a tournament at Slave Lake on the weekend and will look to improve upon the solid effort they gave at home.
