Three Hills Soccer off to a late start

Soccer had a late start this year, about two weeks later than normal, but we had beautiful weather for our first full week and for that we are thankful. Since the season started late, our teams started games on Monday, and will have at least one, sometimes two games every week through the season.

On Monday our U15 team played. This team is our only full field mixed team and is coached by Josh Wiley. The kids had a great first game of the season against Carstairs, with goals from Caleb Wolfe, Jessica Stewart, Betty-Lou Brown, Markus Thiessen and Sterling Rempel, who (despite playing goalie) scored a goal off of a free-kick near the end of the game . The kids played very well, and worked well as a team. It was a great defensive effort to come away with a shutout. Final Score: 8-0 for Three Hills.

On Wednesday our U11 boys played in Carbon. They are coached by Michael Ewert and Collin Munchinsky. They played well in their first game and really focused on playing their positions and staying spread out. Daniel Munchinsky scored his first goal of the season, which led to a victory of 1-0. Brandon Gorr was a superstar in midfield and Ezra Amendt hustled like no one else.

Our U15 team played their second game on Wednesday against Hanna, with Sterling Rempel (Goalie) gone for the game and Laura Scott injured, Three Hills looked to have a tough game ahead of them with no substitutes, but stepped up to the challenge. The kids did a great job breaking down attacks from the other team, and creating goal-scoring opportunities. Caleb Wolfe scored again, as well as Markus Thiessen, James Brown, and Jessi Zabolotney, who scored off a great assist by Peter Hildebrandt, who stepped up at half time to be a substitute for the team. Three Hills won 7-1.

On Thursday both of our U9 teams and our U13 boys had games. Our U9 A (red) team is coached by Luke Savage. The U9A (red) team had their inaugural away game versus Acme this week. It took some time getting used to bigger fields, goalies, positions, and referees for the first time! After the players settled in, the defense held strong as Olivia Murtagh-Moores and Anna Stahl shared goaltending duties in a 4-0 shutout win. Firepower up front was provided by Asha Mal and Isaac Wiebe with a goal apiece, and two for Elisha Murtagh-Moores. The team looks forward to playing hometown rivals next week, and voting on their team name!

The Three Hills U9 B (blue) team is coached by Dave Pasman and they played their first league game on Thursday May 3rd against Irricana. Goalies Jack Tetz and Ethan Mottus did an outstanding job blocking shot after shot from the Irricana team. Every player showed inspiring effort on the field led by Soren “hustle” Creasser who was knocked to the ground more than a few times but kept on springing back up to keep playing hard. Although they didn’t win they played hard and will continue to get better.

Our U13 boys, coached by Gelacio Dominguez, faced an exciting game with the Olds team in the first game of this season with goals from Peter Hildebrandt, Andrew Stewart, Yerik Dominguez, Ian Amendt and Kyler Brown. Prevailing with a score of 9-0. Three Hills won its first match and started its season well.

Next week is going to be a very busy one for all the teams. We also start our mini soccer program on Mondays and Wednesdays (U5-U7). All our older teams have games, and if you are interested in coming to see some soccer, here are the home games we have this week. On Wednesday our U11 boys play at 6 pm and our U19 boys play at 7:15 pm. Then on Thursday our U9 A team plays.
