Former 49ers bring home the Canadian National Oldtimer’s Baseball Championship

Former Three Hills 49ers Baseball teammates Norm Campion and Blair Hanna brought home the Canadian National Oldtimer’s Baseball Championship played in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, August 3-6, 2018.

Norm and Blair were members of the Three Hills 49ers Baseball Team when they won the Rockyview Baseball League Championships in 1985 and 1986 and they’re still going strong.

Now members of the Red Deer Legends (57-plus year category), they opened the tournament with a close game with Oakville, Ontario winning 8-7. Their next game, the Legends came out swinging against the Nova Scotia Monarchs and won 12-6 and there was no looking back.

Saturday, August 4 saw a decisive victory over Pleasant Valley, Nova Scotia of 4-1.

With the Legends finishing second in the preliminary round, and Oakville finishing third, the two teams faced each other in the semi-final. The Legends defeated Oakville 4-3.

Monday, August 6 the Red Deer Legends stepped up against first place preliminary winners Spring Lake, an Alberta rival. It would end with the Legends winning 16-12 in a hard-fought game.
