Potential for new Badlands Basketball Club

Dixon Dunkle, Calgary resident, is seeking to start a basketball club for residents of the Badlands area, encompassing Three Hills and all of Kneehill County. Recognizing that those in rural areas do not always have the same opportunity as those in the city, Dunkle is hoping to base a club out of Drumheller for the surrounding rural areas.

The club would be for those aged 5-18, with a Jr. NBA program for ages 5-12, as well as a U15 and U18 club for boys and girls. On the application for the Jr. NBA program, Dunkle was asked to give a number of how many players and coaches the club would have. Dunkle is seeking to raise awareness and build a committed participant base in order to make this dream a reality. The total cost for the Jr. NBA program is $55.00 per person, and a total of $300.00-$500.00 per person for the other teams.  Practices would be based in Drumheller, with the possibility to rotate between towns, depending on location of the participants.

There are currently 33 members that Dixon has recruited, and he is continuing to put the word out to Drumheller, Hanna, and Three Hills. Dunkle hopes to gain coaches and players, as well as those who might help with organization and coaching.

Those interested can contact Dunkle by searching for the Facebook group “Badlands Bandits Basketball”, by sending him a direct message on Facebook, by email at dtdark23@gmail.com, or by cell phone at 403-614-0918.

The cut-off time for registration is the end of January, eight weeks ahead of when club play would begin.
