That's Life June 16, 2010

The sun will shine on Main Street Three Hills this Saturday, June 19 for the annual Main Street Garage Sale and Free Pancake Breakfast.
At press-time, there were 22 vendors booked for the garage sale that goes, rain or shine, from 9 am to noon.
The free pancake and sausage breakfast goes from 8 am to 10 am. That way, vendors can grab a bite before the sale starts.
If weather is inclement, the sale and breakfast will be moved to the Curling Rink. It's supposed to be sunny and warm.
Registration for the sale is $20. That gets you a table and you can bring more tables if you like. Location is on a first-come, first-served basis. Call Gin at 403-443-7889 Saturday to Wednesday after 3 pm or call The Capital at 443-5133.
Remember! The breakfast is offered free of charge and we invite everyone to come downtown and enjoy it. If you would like to make a donation, of any amount, the funds will go toward the construction of the new Three Hills Splash Park and Wading Pool.
My memory takes me back to being a child in Three Hills. The outdoor wading pool was a favourite with young parents, grandparents and their little ones. With the outdoor pool and wading pool, you could hear the sounds of residents, young and old, enjoying themselves from as far away as Main Street. Well, when I think about it, it was mostly screaming and lifeguard whistles, "Everybody out of the pool!"
There has been quite a bit of chatter about the upcoming Municipal Election in Three Hills and surrounding communities. Three Hills is the only community within the boundaries of Kneehill County that still elects their Mayor. The rest, including Kneehill County Reeve, are elected from within Council. I prefer that because, as it stands in Three Hills, if a seasoned member of Council runs against the incumbent Mayor, somebody is going to lose. We lose a good person. We lose that experience. I believe the Mayor's Chair should be up for grabs annually. If Council sees that a Mayor is filling the bill, that position could easily be renewed by the will of Council. If not, change leadership.
Is Kevin Edwards running for the Mayor's Chair for a third term? Maybe it's too early to say. Like he's said, "You want my job? Be my guest."
If have heard a few whispers about a few Councillors stepping down and I know that I am running for Council. I'll save the campaign speeches and hand shaking for later. There are a few others who have shown interest in Council positions. Will the Mayor's position be acclaimed or will he have to duke it out for the big chair? Believe me, the most boring word used in an election is "acclamation". Come on everybody - get down and get with it.
