That's Life - October 18, 2017

Congratulations to all of the candidates who were successful in their campaigns during the 2017 Municipal Election. And hats off to all those who let their names stand. Running for Municipal Office is a tremendous undertaking and I have the greatest respect for each and every one of those who came forward.

2017 will be remembered as a true election year. New names, new faces and new ideas will help each community pave the way into the future. Best of luck to everyone in your new term. It doesn’t matter if you are new to the table or a veteran, there will always be so much to learn and so many challenges along the way.

Monday, October 30 will see the new Three Hills Council is sworn in. This is a very special time for the members of Council, their families and friends. Let me just say, “things get a little serious when it’s your turn to repeat the Oath of Office.” It’s like eating a big meal and then being strapped into a roller coaster, but that’s something to look forward to.

Halloween decorations are starting to show up and some of them are outstanding. This year’s big night is Tuesday, October 31. Hey, you’ve still got two weeks to spook up your home or business before you turn around and put up your Christmas lights before the big freeze.

And speaking of Christmas, the Three Hills Area Food Bank Christmas Food Drive goes on Wednesday, October 25, 2017. Three Hills Fire and Rescue will be out in full force picking up your donations from 5 pm to 9 pm. Their emergency lights will be flashing, so don’t be alarmed, just donate, donate, donate. And you can donate canned pasta, canned fruit, canned meat and, you guessed it, canned vegetables just by filling your handy, reusable bag, that was left on your front door knob. The Food Bank cannot accept home canning or perishable food items. Please place your non-perishable donations outside your front door. Please turn your front door light and/or front yard light on to help out our firefighters and their additional volunteers with their pickups.

Now, don’t forget to pick up your tickets for “Radio Hour Classics,” presented by the Three Hills Arts Academy. Be a part of the Radio Audience as the many talented members of the Academy croon and swoon their way through the hits of the 30’s and 40’s. Ladies and gentlemen, I’m talking about fun, food, drink and fabulous classic tunes. There’s even an optional swing dance on the final performance night. The shows go on October 26 - 28, 2017 at 7 pm at the Three Hills Arts Academy at 201 - 5th Ave. NE. See the ad in this issue for ticket details.

Also, the 14th Annual Prairie Christian Academy Sabres Athletics Fundraiser Banquet and Auction goes this Saturday, October 21 at 5 pm at the Bethel Evangelical Church. TV sports personality Heath Brown will be your Master of Ceremonies. Auctioneering Champ Jon Radcliffe will call the Auction. Elite soccer player, Andy West, of Sheffield, England, will be the keynote speaker. See the display ad in this issue for ticket details.

You know, it never fails, the summer months are so relaxed that you forget just how busy things get when school gets back into session. From now to New Year’s Eve, it’s go time. Keep an eye on The Capital, in all its forms, and we’ll keep you posted on what’s going on. Hey, we’ve been doing this for over 100 years, so to us, That’s Life.
