That's Life - August 15, 2018

You know, when the weather is nice sometimes there are people out there who aren’t so nice.

I’m talking about crimes being committed in and around our communities more and more often.

There was a time, and not so many years ago, that the Three Hills RCMP Detachment district was the most crime free amongst all of the detachment contract jurisdictions in this great province of Alberta.

Well, those days are over.

Sunday’s home robbery took place in daylight. No, not at 6:30 am but 12:20 pm. People are out and about, up and at ‘em.

I’m thinking that home and/or business security system will eventually become a mandatory requirement in order to obtain insurance.

It’s no secret that good home security cameras act as a solid deterrent to crimes being committed.

In a day and age where people have chosen to shop via computer, and have goods left on their doorsteps, until they arrive home from work, we are guilty of adding fuel to the fire. Consider a really good video surveillance system and make it really hard for these crooks to commit a crime and make it easier for our law enforcement officers to identify these criminals if they insist on committing a criminal act.

I just want to mention that Kidsztown is happening at Anderson Park daily right up to and including Friday, August 17 at 6:30 pm. Kidztown features music, puppets, drama, in a faith-based format. It’s a fun event for the whole family.

Don’t miss Alberta Open Farm Days. This is all about farm-to-table culinary events and farm tours. It all happens August 18 - 19. See the full page color ad in this issue, on page 11, for more details.

Another big event is the Growing Kneehill Country Market and Long Table Dinner at Horseshoe Canyon.

The market will operate from 2 pm to 6 pm featuring local produce and artisans.

Back to School is just under three weeks away. For kids who think summer is over just remember that you have more holidays ahead of you than most of your parents ever had. My goodness, if I had three weeks off I don’t know what I would do with myself. That’s a lot of head scratching and pacing. Now, I have to get back to work.
