That's Life - October 9, 2019

Fire Prevention Week is October 6-12 this year and it is an honour and a privilege to present the 2019 Fire Prevention Week Special Issue in this week’s issue of The Capital.

This year’s theme is, “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape”.

Plan ahead! If a fire breaks out in your home, you may have only a few minutes to get out safely once the smoke alarm sounds. Everyone needs to know what to do and where to go if there is a fire.

It is important for you to read this week’s Special Fire Prevention issue and learn all about preparing an escape plan as well as heater safety, the importance of smoke detectors and so much more.

It’s up to you to take action to keep you and your loved ones safe.

The region of Kneehill County is home to six Fire Departments. They are located in Acme, Carbon, Linden, Three Hills, Torrington and Trochu. These departments support each other in many cases such as structural fires and motor vehicle crashes. They are on call 24/7, are highly trained and operate state of the art firefighting equipment.

Our firefighters are volunteers and put their own personal safety at risk to protect all of us, our homes and our workplaces from the devastation that can be caused, so quickly, by fire. Our firefighters also respond to assist with motor vehicle crashes and, when necessary, also assist as first responders in medial situations with Alberta Health Services Ambulance personnel.

We thank our many firefighters and special thanks to their families for all of the support, encouragement, comfort and understanding they provide to our heros, our firefighters.

As always I would like to thank the many advertisers who make it possible to produce our special issues throughout the year. We encourage everyone to support our local businesses so that this region continues to thrive and grow.

And with Thanksgiving upon us this weekend, please take a moment to give thanks to the brave men and women who come to the call whenever the alarm sounds.

That’s Life.
