That's Life - November 25, 2020

In the spring and summer of 2020 we were fairly confident that COVID-19 would be but a bad memory. Well, we’re waving goodbye to November and Alberta is reporting record numbers of positive cases day after day.

In December of 1985 Midnight Madness was first held in Three Hills. Oh sure, the name and hours of this annual Christmas shopping tradition have since changed to Moonlight Madness with shopping until 10pm, and in some cases, 9pm but it is still a treasured traditional event. Well, not this year.

Due to COVID-19 all Chamber of Commerce sponsored Moonlight Madness activities have been cancelled. As of the morning of Tuesday, November 24, 2020, the Moonlight Market, at the Bethel Evangelical Missionary Church and Three Hills Community Centre have been cancelled as well.

There are still several businesses downtown that will offer extended hours this Friday evening. Friday evening would be a great time to do a little shopping and drive through the town taking in the Christmas lights. Maybe things will be traditional again next year. Who knows.

The Annual Winter Celebration at the Three Hills Recreation Park, has now been cancelled for this year. If you’re new to town, it pains me that you and your family will not experience these wonderful events this year.

Another sad announcement I have to make is the cancellation of our Annual Community Christmas Card. Each year your financial contribution to the card goes directly to the Three Hills Area Food Bank. I urge you to continue to support the Food Bank by making a direct donation. Please mail your donation to: Three Hills Area Food Bank, Box 1695, Three Hills, AB, T0M 2A0.
