To elect or to acclaim? That is the question. And that question will be answered following Nomination Day on Monday, September 18, 2017.

Nomination papers must be filed, for the October 16 Municipal General Election, between the hours of 10 am and noon. Candidates can withdraw their nomination papers by noon on Tuesday, September 19.

Check this issue for Notice of Nomination Day advertising, as required by Section 26 of the Local Authorities Election Act.

And just like that, school is back in class.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t remember a summer as hot and smoky as this one. But wait, summer is not over. Fall kicks in on September 22 and the splash parks in Three Hills and Trochu remain open while the summer heat continues.

Wildfires have plagued British Columbia this summer with dry conditions being a factor. It’s unfortunate that so many of these fires have been caused by humans.

We still have just over three weeks of summer left so get out there and soak it up. And speaking of soak, the Labour Day weekend usually marks the closure of our area outdoor pools. Acme closed last Saturday while Carbon and Trochu will wrap things up on Monday, September 4. I am told that the splash parks in Three Hills and Trochu will remain open while weather permits.

Well, here’s hoping you haven’t destroyed your retinas by looking directly at Monday’s solar eclipse.

I keep hearing newscasts about the “once in a lifetime experience.” Truth be known, they happen, somewhere in the world, every 18 months.

We will experience a “Total Solar Eclipse” right here, in 2024. That gives us seven years to order our next set of over-priced, over-rated, protective glasses. Or, ask a welder if you can wear his welding goggles.
