Hasn't this past weekend been just a beautiful weather break for us. What has "Mother Nature" in store for us? One thing about it, we can't do much to change it.
Andy and Melba Kopjar attended the graduation of their granddaughter Amanda Kopjar at the University of Lethbridge on June 3. Amanda graduated with a degree in Science and Kinesiology. Andy and Melba then returned home via Pincher Creek where they spent the weekend with their daughter Nora Manners and family.
Jackie Ruby, driven by John Ruby, went to Calgary recently where they attended the 90th Birthday Party of cousin, Doug Prowse, formerly of Carbon. His immediate family members came from Ontario, BC and Germany, and Sommerville family members came from all across Canada. It was a marvelous time of getting re-acquainted with relatives not seen for years. Most of Jackie's family were able to be there. Gordon King also attended, driven by Carl and Carol Nishimura.
Following this, John and Jackie continued onto attend an engagement party for Dane Moran and Leanne McIsaac, where Dan and Leanne's family got acquainted with each other before next year's wedding. A delicious Thai buffet was enjoyed by all.
The first few days of June were busy ones for Chris Kester. She accompanied her daughter Noreen to Calgary on June 3 where they attended her grandson, Myles Jenken's Grade 12 graduation. They then proceeded to Lethbridge to the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Noreen sang at the incoming of the Grand Worthy Matron. On Sunday, they visited with Lorne and Lyn Kester before returning home.
Knox United Church held a celebration on June 13 to mark the 85th anniversary of the United Church of Canada. Many women wore hats of that era, while some men wore suits and ties as was tradition. A delicious lunch was served after the service.
Eleanor Stewart was very happy to have family home recently. Jerry and Joyce Stewart from BC picked up Jerry's sister, Trudy Chimko, from the plane and brought her to Eleanor's. Trudy is from Beaverton, Oregon. Faye and Taz Urano, along with granddaughter Julie and her daughter Sarah, all of Taber, were also home. The Jerry Stewart's have sold their home in BC and will be living in High River.
Many women of the community attended a lovely come and go shower for Kristine Stankievech, bride-elect of Ryan Ferguson. Kristine graciously thanked everyone for the beautiful gifts she received. A time of visiting and reminiscing was enjoyed by all.
Grace Reed and her daughter Mary Poole accompanied Mary's daughter, Laura and Michael Balon and family to Lethbridge on June 5. Here they attended the wedding of Grace and Watson's grandson Matthew Reed to Hayley Geiger. Matthew is the son of Hal and Marilyn Reed of Taber.
Bill and Shirley Jefferson of Selkirk, Manitoba, and her sister Carol and Ray McKeen, now living in Three Hills, spent the weekend visiting their cousins Allen and Bernice Huxley and Norman and Eileen Cowie.
The weekend of June 5, the Allen Huxley family camped out at Orkney. Colleen Wagner, Meagan and Mitchell of Fort Saskatchewan, Mike and Christine Kiemeny and Adrianna of Strathmore as well as Don Huxley of Lethbridge birthdays were celebrated.
Tom and Karen Ferguson, Chris and Kay Maynes, Don and Krista Ferguson and their families were in Lethbridge June 5. They attended the wedding of Laura Ferguson to Adam Laviane at South Minister United Church. Laura is the daughter of Dan and Nancy Ferguson of Edmonton.
George and Ruby Reed were visited recently by Ruby's cousins, Judy McAlister and Linda Snow of Penticton, BC.
This past week Tom and Karen Ferguson spent a few days at Blood Indian. They report that the fishing was successful but the weather didn't really cooperate.
