Trochu News June 2, 2010

I wonder if Mother Nature is going through a phase where she can't make up her mind as to whether it should be winter or summer. Maybe she's having trouble getting to see a specialist in that area. Doesn't she realize that we have to get our pink flowers planted so we can become the pinkest community in August when the Trail Ride for Cancer visits Trochu? We don't mind the rains, but please, Mother Nature, the cold and snow is not meant to be May and June weather. I will admit that you did manage a smile on May 25 so that the spring soup and sandwich day went off well at the Arboretum in Trochu. It's always nicer sitting outside with a chorus of bird songs for background music. Some took the opportunity to tour the visitor centre which has turned into the Sweetgrass Cafe. The decor has been changed and has taken on a homey look with Dr. Hay's portrait hanging above the fireplace, looking as if he fully agrees with all the activity in his former home. As usual, the groups and sandwiches were delicious and enjoyed by around 80 customers. Thanks to all those volunteers who help make these things happen.
Congratulations to all those young ladies and gentlemen in the County who celebrated their graduation from high school. Good luck in finding your niche with a career that makes you happy.
The ACE Trails committee invites those who enjoy walking to gather at the curling rink on Thursday, June 3. They plan to walk while discussing a new pathway system around Trochu. If weather interferes, they will gather at the Trochu Museum. Your input is welcome. The ACE committees have been busy planning a family event for June 10. The Trochu Swimming Pool will offer free family swim. Following that, ACE hooks up with Service Credit Union for a movie at dusk in the Tree Park. Admission is free, however, donations toward ACE projects will be most welcome. See the Town of Trochu display ad for more details.
