Fall is here, rake up those leaves, cut off the dead foliage on your perennials, prune shrubbery and ready your yard for next spring. Now that the harvest is in and most produce has been gathered a good rain would be welcome.
Now is the time to give those trees and plants a good soaking so they can survive the winter.
Fall suppers are again being scheduled and St. Mary's Auxiliary is hosting a Harvest Tea and Bake Sale at the Lodge on Oct. 19. Visions Country Gospel Concert and Dessert is being presented at the Trochu Community Centre on Sunday, Oct 20th. Mark your calendars and don't miss out on a delicious turkey dinner or any evening of entertainment.
A cool autumn day on Tuesday, Oct. 9 didn't discourage many members and a guest from attending an afternoon of Bingo and birthday celebrations at the Drop-In.
Ed Henkel and Jim Deering were on deck to call the numbers for ten games with the blackout going to Bert Adrian. Happy Birthday was sung ,and those present to have their picture taken were Jim Christie, Elvin Haller, Dorothy Haller and guest Elaine Johnston. Birthday cake was served.
Trochu & District Hall Development Society 300 Club winners for September were Dianne Haworth, Danielle Robertson, Joanne (Frere) Wilson and Andy Dick.
Trochu Elks 200 Club winners for September were Audrey Nelson, Cheryl Franke, Ed Henkel and Michelle Wagstaff.
OORP news
The regular meeting of Trochu OORP #71 was held October 8, with 15 members present. Lodge was opened on short form, conducted by PHRL Fran Soloway in the absence of HRL Irene Diack. Roll call and reading of minutes of September meeting followed. Both treasurer's reports were given and communications read. PHRL Shirley Smyth reported on the Tro-Val awards which went to Courtney Morgan, who is studying Lab and Xray at NAIT and Bailee Nelson, attending Norquest College to become a Health Care Aide.
The 2014 District Meeting will be in Drumheller April 12. Lodge closed and a tasty lunch enjoyed. Next meeting will be held Nov. 12.
