Trochu News June 4, 2014

Recently, the Trochu and District Arboretum Society hosted its annual Soup and Sandwich luncheon. It was held in and around the new Visitor Interpretive Centre, now known as VIC. The attendance was good and support for the Arboretum Society was reassuring, as many memberships were received. Food was contributed for the event, along with time and effort from volunteers. Eldon Walls donated the event posters and Arboretum Society members, Dave Parrish and Roy Ashcroft, organized the event.
The Arboretum Society will be hosting an Elegant Evening in the Park - our Arboretum, on Saturday, June 21. Summer Solstice, often called Midsummer Day, is the day that has the longest period of daylight. To celebrate this natural phenomenon when our planet Earth is most inclined toward the sun, an evening of activities have been planned. Summer Solstice will be a wine and cheese occasion, featuring European, Canadian and South American wines. Guitarist Mackenzie Meding will provide a musical ambience to the evening. There will be a short ceremony to feature the Grant Opening of the Visitor Interpretive Centre and the Trochu Volunteer of the Year will be announced and the recipient will be presented with the award for this honour.
The Arboretum Society is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year. Many residents of our community have contributed greatly to the success of the gardens.
