The warmer weather on Nov. 18 was a welcome change for those who ventured out for an afternoon of bingo and birthday celebrations at the Seniors Drop-in. Jim Deering did an excellent job of calling the numbers for ten games. Phyllis Steinbach and Phyllis Fabian shared the blackout prize. Happy Birthday was sung and those present to have their picture taken were Martha Doerksen and Chuck Greig. Coffee, cake and visiting was enjoyed by all. The Trochu Drop-in continues to be a busy place. Everyone is welcome for drop in of a cup of coffee in the morning or afternoon six days a week. Want to do some Christmas shoping? Come to the Drop-in to place a bid on the many items on the silent auction table and don’t forget Pie Day on December 5 and the annual Christmas Banquet on Dec. 7.
Martha Doerksen celebrated her 94th birthday Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Drop-in. All of her family and many friends were present to greet and wish her well. Congratulations, Martha, on reaching this milestone in your life.
Auxiliary news
St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary had 13 members in attendance for their November meeting. The Auxiliary has joined the West Central Region Board. Members are looking forward to networking with other site members at the provincial conference in Olds in 2015. The Auxiliary held a very successful tea and bake sale Nov. 5 at the Lodge. The Auxiliary amalgamated with St. Mary’s Pastoral Care Team for this event to celebrate 150 years of Catholic Care in Alberta. Presentations were given by Leona Lynn, Alice Moore and Pastor Nick on the history and highlights of the Pastoral Care Team. A tribute to Margaret Stankievech, one of our faithful Pastoral Care people, was read. The Auxiliary is most appreciative to all who attended the tea, donated baking, non-members who assist with serving and those providing monetary donations. The Auxiliary provided coffee and cookies at the Trochu Flu Clinic in October. The Trochu Lions provided the urns, coffee, fixings and the goodies for us to serve. We will be at the Dec. 4 flu clinic as well. Members will be busy volunteering at the various events at St. Mary’s this festive season. A donation was made to provide funds to Kelly and Essie for their Christmas activities. Our Christmas meeting is Dec. 16. Consider joining us that evening. New members are always welcome.
