Trochu News December 3, 2014

The Arboretum Christmas Market was a huge success, last Thursday evening. I haven’t been given any figures to report yet, but I know they exceeded their expectations in funds for this season. Supper was yummy, and the crowd was happy and huge. To all those donators of time, money and gifts - without you there wouldn’t be a market to come out and enjoy. You people amaze me, with a freezing cold night of blowing snow, you still come out and support your community, and bring your kids to see Santa! I know there were a few other businesses in town, participating in the evenings festivities, and I also hear that they had successful events!
Congratulations to Carol Frank and Dr. David Blocksom in their exciting new venture in downtown Trochu. Go on in and see them in the brand new building on Arena Ave. Maybe next year we will celebrate a Light Up in Trochu, with our whole town, the last Thursday in November!!
I’ve noticed all the beautiful lights turned on in the Arboretum on special occasions of late. People are utilizing the new VIC Centre for staff Christmas parties and special events and the lights seem to magically come on just before guests arrive! (hats off to Rick Kober) the Actual light up with fire and cocoa in the Arboretum begins officially on Friday, December 19th and runs through Sunday, January 4th,  admission by donation.
Opening Game Night in
the TroVal Gym
Monday, November 24 was an evening filled with volleyball, school spirit, and community support at the new Trochu Valley School gymnasium’s first game night. Throughout the entire evening, the new bleachers were packed with smiling fans who were there to cheer on their favourite young athletes, visit the new space, and show their support. Each of TroVal’s volleyball teams ended their season making TroVal history being the first teams to play in the new gym, enjoying some friendly competition with the visiting Elnora, Delburne, and Acme teams.  Wednesday, December 3 will be an equally exciting evening as the basketball season kicks off, with the senior girls playing at 5:15, followed by the senior boys.  Everyone is welcome! Go Jays!!
It is interesting and perfectly fitting to note that, when the gym doors first opened for practices last week, it didn’t take more than ten minutes for two dear Trochu Valley School alumni to set foot inside…Even before some of the players arrived, Bill Cunningham and Kevin Kubinec were in the gym, smiling, studying, and sharing in the excitement.  It was just perfect to have these valued, dedicated former TroVal teachers, coaches, and huge supporters there to share the moment. Certainly, these evenings created only the first of many, many memories to be made in our new gymnasium.
That’s it for This Week in Trochu, enjoy your Christmas festivities and please think smart and be safe.
