Trochu News - January 20, 2016

An awesome display of fireworks ushered out the old year on the eve of Dec. 31. The Trochu Lions Hawaii trip tickets were also drawn on new Year's Eve with Margie Frere being the winner of the trip. The second draw of $500 went to Phyllis Fabian and Judy Downey had her name drawn for the $300. Congratulations to the three lucky gals of Trochu. On New Year's Day, the Trochu Drop In hosted a pot-luck dinner. What a wonderful way to bring in the New Year. The resolve to diet had to be put aside as the food was just too good to resist. Visitors are always welcome at the Drop In.
Trochu Elks 200 Club winners for December were Neil Sandberg, Ted Pruden, Ron Mossop and Phil Frere (Rosemary).
Trochu & District Hall Development Society 300 Club winners for December were Joe Wesgate (Sharon), Bev Kototailo Ken Wohl and Gloria Kubinec won the last draw of the year of $6000. Congratulations, Gloria.
Members and a number of guests came out to the Drop-In on Tuesday, Jan. 12 for an afternoon of Bingo and Birthday celebrations. Jim Deering welcomed the visitors and, with the assistance of Grace Olfert, called the numbers for a variety of games. The blackout prize went to Maureen Nelson. Happy Birthday was sung after which everyone enjoyed cake and visiting.
The regular meeting of the Royal Purple Elks #71 was held January 12 with 17 members present. The Chapter was draped in memory of our departed Sister, Lady Marie Kubinec. The Lodge opened in regular form. Following roll call, minutes of the last meeting were read and both treasurer's reports were given and approved. A memorial service will be held January 25 at St. Mary's Lodge. Plans were made for our 73rd anniversary supper on February 9. Lodge closed followed by a tasty lunch enjoyed by all. The next meeting is February 9.
