On Feb. 14, I awoke to the cooing of a pair of ring-necked turtle doves - very appropriate for Valentines Day! These birds have been a curiosity for me. My bird book says they were caged birds that were popular in Los Angeles, Miami and Tampa. Some were turned loose or escaped and soon increased in number. The pair in our vicinity have been around for the last three years, however, this is the first winter I've noticed them. Nature is full of surprises.

The community of Trochu and many people of the area will be saddened to hear of the death January 31 of Sr. Emma Hartman in Saskatoon. Sr. Emma came to St. Mary's HCC August 1997, took residence and became a friend not only through her presence as "pastoral care", but as a fun-loving resident of Trochu. She will be missed.

I have to admit that after a month of slow recovery following my fall, I've got cabin fever. I've had too much time to think and wonder about things. Like, how did I manage to exist living alone in a teacherage with no phone, no power, no vehicle and the low wage of $5 per teaching day? There was no monthly pay.
