Oct 2, 1940 - Feb 1, 2023
Ruby was born Oct 2, 1940 at Tees Alberta and raised on the family farm near Mirror. Her schools were at Gadsby Lake and Mirror and her post office was in Alix. The Jedel family church was at Ellis. Ruby learned the basics of Christianity at home and at the church at Ellis. She did not remember a time when she did not believe in her Creator God, nor a time when she was not depending on Jesus Christ as her Saviour. This was so important to her that she always wanted to be a missionary so she could tell others. She met Cecil Cowie while attending Berean Bible College in Calgary from 1961 to 1964. They were married on June 26, 1964. They lived in Manning (Cecil’s home town) for about 3 years, followed by Whitecourt, Entwistle, and Three Hills. Ruby and Cecil, loved to travel, primarily by road in their camperized van. Over the years they managed to visit every province in Canada except Newfoundland Special vacations included a 25th anniversary trip to Hawaii, a 40th anniversary cruise to Alaska, a family wedding at Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island, and a week visiting family in Costa Rica. Ruby enjoyed her latter years with Cecil, together at their home in Three Hills. She loved sitting out on the deck with a cup of tea, enjoying the sunshine, birds singing, and the smell of the lilacs. Jan 17, Ruby developed pneumonia. While in the Red Deer Hospital, she suffered a collapsed lung, and eventually passed away on the evening of Feb 1, 2023, with Cecil and several family members at her side. Ruby temporarily leaves Cecil, her husband of 58 years; three sons and their families—Ken (Lorie, Michaela, Alexa, Brianna) of Edmonton; Brad (Barb, Justin & Shalise) of Sexsmith; Daryl (Gaylene, Logan, and Selina) of Calgary—and daughter Leanna of Penhold. She leaves one brother, Albert Jedel of Ottawa, ON, one sister, Phyllis Lee of Grande Cache, AB, several cousins and relatives, and a circle of friends too large to list. She was pre-deceased by her parents: Carl (2001) and Lillian (1980) Jedel. Her hope and prayer has always been that not one of her family and circle of friends will be missing when the roll is called up yonder and she is there. A memorial service will be held at Bethel Evangelical Missionary Church, 123 4th Ave E in Three Hills, on Friday, Feb 10, at 2:00 pm. For live stream or YouTube, see “https://bethel3hills.ca/
