The Three Hills Thrashers season is fully underway, now having the first two regular season matches under their belts.
The Thrashers hosted Rocky on Halloween night, hoping to get this return off on the right foot. The first half of the contest was very even, with the teams playing a scoreless first period. They then exchanged goals early in the second, with Ty Winther rallying the Thrashers first mark of the year.
Rocky broke the game open in the final minutes of the middle frame, and led 4-1 after 40 minutes.
The teams exchanged goals in the third, with Winther getting his second, and the final score would be Rocky 5 and your Thrashers 2. Jacob Aellen stopped 33 of 38 shots in the loss. Former Thrashers goalie, Devon Carroll of Red Deer, got the win for the visitors.
The two teams were right back at it on Sunday, with the Rams holding court in their building.
Rocky led 2-1 after 20 minutes, with Thrashers newly appointed captain Kobe Kienzle netting the Thrashers lone goal.
Like Saturday, the Rams also led 4-1 thru 2, before the teams traded goals in the third, settling on an identical 5-2 final. Bryson McQuillan’s shot from the point accounted for the second Thrashers goal. Connor Jacobson went the distance in the Thrashers goal in the loss, and stopped 41 of 46 shots.
The weekend didn’t provide the results that the Thrashers were looking for, but signs point to more and more success, as the team gels and finds its way in the HJHL’s North division.
The two teams play two more against each other, Friday November 6 at 8:30 in Rocky. They are then back in Three Hills for an 8:00 start on Saturday evening.
As a reminder to fans- the Thrashers are limited to 100 spectators at every game, and walk-up, or door tickets, aren’t available at this time.
