That's Life - July 8, 2020

Break out the swimming suits and prepare to make a splash at the Three Hills Aquatic Centre.

I thought I would try and make the Aquatic Centre re-opening sound exciting but I’m having a hard time.

Yes, it re-opens on Tuesday, July 14. Yes, there are limitations in place to keep you safe from the spread of Covid-19.

There will be a maximum of 25 participants in the pool at one time. The usual maximum is about 200 so that will give everyone lots of opportunity for social distancing.

It’s going to be like the old days at the outdoor pool. When we were kids we would show up at the pool in our trunks with a towel around our necks. We’d run in, throw our towels on the deck and dive into the water. When it was time to leave we just got out and walked home in our wet suits. Not always, but on those hot summer days. There were those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer when we would be back in the pool before our suits fully dried. Now, that’s the life. We thought so.

Trochu’s pool is open for business as is their splash park. The Rob Naylor Splash Park, in Three Hills is also open with Covid restrictions in place.

Acme’s swimming pool is undergoing some resurfacing so it will be a while before they open. The Village of Carbon swimming pool will remain closed this season, due to the Covid- 19 pandemic.

I got word today that our Three Hills summer staff is now employed and busy catching up on things. We were allowed four summer staff as opposed to last year’s five. This has been a year of uncertainty and turmoil to say the least.

Now, if it would just stop raining for a while our crews could get some of that work caught up.

So hang in there, put on a happy face and try and stay out of the rain. And before I complain too much about the moisture, I’ll recall what a farmer friend of mine just told me, “Remember this, we’re only two weeks away from a drought.” I never thought of it that way.

That’s Life.
